Pooja Bajaj, the founder of the unique workshop concept, introduced her marketing skills to a familyowned studio in Madh Island and put some friendly professionals in the mix. The result is that you can get a feel of what it would be like to make your passion your profession.

Sign up as group of friends, a work team or an individual and sit down to whittle down your interest.

Like fashion? See what it is like to style a photo-shoot, model and take pictures. Into movies? Get some help writing a script, getting behind the camera (or in front of it) and make a short film. Dig music? Get inside a sound studio where the magic happens to understand the equipment and what it does.

All this happens under expert supervision. Each workshop is a field trip, each project, a group task – making a short documentary, a portfolio or an ad campaign. You get free run of a film studio for a day with sets, lights, camera, sound and recording, costumes, while professionals in the field guide the process and help you use the instruments. The film is edited by professionals, or if you’d like to try your hand at it, you can give it a go.
Professionals are roped in to guide the process, help you streamline and verbalise (or visualise) thoughts, and help you understand how to use the equipment. Adults can have fun too. Instead of making a boring power-point document to be handed over to every new employee by way of induction, a short film is much more educating and entertaining. And if employees themselves make the film, scripting it, explaining the role of each department, it turns into a team-building exercise too. Such a group interaction brings to fore leadership qualities, group and individual strengths and hidden talents.
The professionals on hand are career counsellors who impart wisdom – you could assist a stylist on a magazine shoot, shadow her for a few days to understand the grit behind the glamour, as well as spot her for a few well-placed references after you decide this is what you want to do. After the summer is over, if you know this is what you want to make into your career, you’ll know whom to call.
